In Art We Find Truth

Watched this video on 20/20 last night. Not sure about the message it sends about domestic violence. I think she is saying that in the moment of passion when when you know you should run but stay it is like playing Russian Roulette with your life.
I want to shine a light on domestic violence against women and children in this country.
It is a very complex subject matter and I think it is importat to present as many views as I can.

Here is Rihanna.

I Believe In Magic

Worked on this image until three a.m.

Still not satisfied. I need to replace the hand image with something else. Will post it here and maybe inspiration will come or perhaps someone will have a suggestion.

More Inspiration from Music

I think this is one of my new favorite artists Christina Aguilera. When I saw her do "Mans World" at the grammys my mouth was open in amazement.
Just found this video and I'm sure I can create something beautiful from the words of this song.

I know this is not a music blog but nothing puts me in the mood to create more then a moving song/performance.

After watching several of Christina's music videos I was surprised to find that her earlier work was about growing up in an abusive home. After listening to this song I was brought to tears.
So personal and painful yet so true for children all over the world. This is a cause very close to my heart.

House of the Rising Sun

For over a year now I have been contemplating creating a series of art works based on music that has well trying to find the word, haunted me I think. Songs I have listened to at least a hundred times and never tire of.
One song is "House of the Rising Sun". A lot of the music is from the 60's -70's.
Decided to research and try to find any other art inspired by this song and was delighted to not only find an artist but the writer talking about the song and well click on the link and see what you think.

This is one of the best versions I have heard from a bank called "The Riverdogs" other then the original track by the Animals.
Purchased it from iTunes! Wish the video showed the actual performance.

Baby Jane

My last post started me thinking about the movie Baby Jane and for the fun of it decided to see if there might be a video on utube. I found an amazing one to share. They don't make movies like this anymore! I now need to create a piece of art from inspiration from this movie.

Here is the link for now but will see if I can figure out how to get more high tech and embed it.

Enjoy and please leave a comment!

Found found another vide.
I may try to be Baby Jane for Halloween and sorry to say it wouldn't be that much of a stretch! Just a little heavy eye makeup, dress and a blonde wig. Perfect!

New Artist

I was browsing local events and noticed this artist would be performing at the Orange Peel this week in Asheville. I looked her up and was totally mesmerized by her story. Her last video reminded me of Betty Davis and done sort of like the movie "Blue Velvet". Haunting.
She was a drug addict in her youth and her journey and struggle is candid and heartwrenching.
A lesson for current and future generations to learn from.

Artist for the day is the lovely Meg Fox

I joined a wonderful art group years ago and I still can't belive my good fortune in becoming a member. The founder of the group Skydancer passed away. I think of her quite often and the gift she has left behind in her amazing works of art. I'm sure I will feature many of the artists from that group over time but the one person that inspired me most by her art, writings, giving and caring spirit is Meg Fox.
She is a talented artist, writer, musician, mother, wife and now grandmother.

Please take time to enjoy her works of art, words of wisdom, go with her on her personal journey to heal her soul and spirit.

Artist discovery of the day Diane Fenster

Diane Fenster is not an unknown. I have seen her work over the years. Her name appeared
on a list of artists with entries into a show titled "The Spirit World". I have prepared a list to visit all the contributing artists web sites for inspiration and to get to know more about the artists and their inspiration and insight into this fascinating subject matter.

Happily I found a group of work about ghosts but it goes deeper then that. Diane is always on the cutting edge of creating new and exciting works using difficult techniques.
Please take the time to visit Diane's website and if you have the time check out her earlier works also.

I have to say that if any artist fits the title of my blog here Ms. Fenster is at the top of the list.

New Artist Discoveries

Many people have PAD clubs. The goal to post a new photo every day. My goal at least for now
is to discover new artists works that I think is original, tells a story and moves me in some way.

Today artist number one is Jennifer Shaw in New Orleans La

I love the way Jennifer has documented and told the story of a city devastated by Katrina but
how it still continues to thrive and keep it's old traditions like Mardi Gras celebration.
I hope you enjoy this site as much as I did.

It's a New Day and I'm feeling good

This is my third attempt at doing this and I hope it sticks this time!
